Alternatives
The SNDR alternative to Postmark.
A Postmark alternative for teams that want Postmark-grade deliverability with multi-MTA failover, replayable signed webhooks, and predictable USD billing.
Postmark earned its reputation by treating transactional email as a separate craft from marketing — and we’ve learned a lot from how they think about reputation. SNDR is built in the same spirit. The difference is in the operational layer: a multi-MTA pool that fails over automatically, a webhook subsystem you can replay from the admin, and a Merchant-of-Record billing flow that handles VAT and sales tax for you. If you like Postmark’s philosophy but need an operator console and predictable global billing, this page is for you.

SNDR vs Postmark
Every row links to where the underlying behavior is documented or implemented.
| Feature | SNDR | Postmark |
|---|---|---|
| Transactional focus | Yes — transactional and broadcast, separated | Yes — separate transactional and broadcast streams |
| Delivery network | Multi-MTA pool with weighted routing + circuit breakers | Managed delivery on Postmark infra |
| Webhook retries | 12 attempts, exponential backoff with jitter, replay from admin | Retries with backoff |
| Webhook signatures | HMAC-SHA256 timestamp.body, replay-defended | Basic auth + Postmark IP allowlist |
| Idempotency | Header-driven, SDK auto-generates | Not first-class |
| Per-MTA analytics | Built in | Aggregate |
| Inbound email | On the roadmap | Yes — InboundHook is mature |
| Bounce + complaint webhooks | email.bounced / email.complained / email.unsubscribed | Bounce + complaint webhooks |
| Billing currency | USD via Paddle (MoR) | USD via Braintree |
| Region | MENA-headquartered, Arabic-fluent support | US-based (acquired by ActiveCampaign) |

Why teams switch
Where SNDR fits better than Postmark.
Multi-MTA, not single-vendor
Postmark routes through their own IPs — which is great until a single ISP relationship sours. SNDR runs a pool of MTAs and routes per recipient ISP, with circuit-breaker drop-out for misbehaving boxes.
Replayable signed webhooks
Postmark’s webhook story relies on IP allowlisting + basic auth. SNDR signs every payload with HMAC-SHA256, includes a timestamp to defeat replay, and shows every past delivery in the admin with a one-click replay button.
Idempotency as a primitive
The SDK auto-generates an Idempotency-Key per logical send and reuses it across retries — a transient 5xx can never double-deliver an order receipt. With Postmark you build this yourself.
Per-MTA delivery curves
See which box delivered what — vital when an IP gets temporarily greylisted. Postmark’s analytics are aggregate; if one upstream relationship is degraded you’ll find out from your customers first.
Operator-grade admin
Suspend an API key with a reason that lands in the user’s email verbatim. Replay any webhook delivery. Watch live probes every 30 seconds. Built for the on-call engineer.
MoR billing
Paddle handles VAT, sales tax, reverse-charge, dunning, and refunds for every customer’s jurisdiction. One USD line item on your card.
Migration
Moving off Postmark's SDK.
The SNDR SDK uses the same primitives as most modern email clients — install, instantiate with a key, call emails.send. In most codebases the migration is a focused diff.
- 1
Install the SDK
Add @rkiza/sndr alongside the postmark package — they coexist while you cut over.
pnpm add @rkiza/sndr - 2
Replace the send call
Postmark’s sendEmail maps cleanly. Templates work too — create them in the SNDR dashboard or via the API.
// before import postmark from 'postmark'; const client = new postmark.ServerClient(process.env.POSTMARK_SERVER_TOKEN!); await client.sendEmail({ From: 'me@you.com', To: 'a@b.com', Subject: 'hi', HtmlBody: '<p>hi</p>' }); // after import { Sndr } from '@rkiza/sndr'; const sndr = new Sndr(process.env.SNDR_API_KEY!); await sndr.emails.send({ from: 'me@you.com', to: 'a@b.com', subject: 'hi', html: '<p>hi</p>' }); - 3
Migrate webhook handlers
Postmark webhooks ship POSTed JSON. Swap to verifyWebhookSignature() and the typed event shape.
import { verifyWebhookSignature } from '@rkiza/sndr'; app.post('/webhooks/sndr', express.raw({ type: 'application/json' }), (req, res) => { if (!verifyWebhookSignature(req.body, req.header('x-sndr-signature') ?? '', process.env.SNDR_WEBHOOK_SECRET!)) { return res.status(400).send('bad signature'); } // event.type: email.delivered | email.bounced | email.complained | email.unsubscribed res.status(200).send('ok'); }); - 4
Reuse your DNS
SPF and DMARC are reusable across providers. Add the SNDR include in the SPF "include:" chain. Generate a fresh DKIM selector for the SNDR sending domain.
- 5
Shadow traffic for a week
Send a percentage of transactional emails through SNDR via a feature flag. Watch per-recipient-domain inbox rate match Postmark. Cut over fully when the curves are within a percentage point.

No shade — Postmark is a great product. SNDR just optimises for different things.
